Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps and Mini Splits

A heat pump system heats the home when temperatures are cold, and cools it when the thermostat rises. They not only are environmentally friendly, but they also run very quietly, are very reliable and can sometimes lower your air conditioning and heating bills as well. Heat pumps are designed to save money for consumers in every aspect of home heating and cooling.

During warmer months, a heat pump will use electricity to cool your home, while in the winter, it uses electricity to heat the home rather than running on gas as many traditional units do. Furnaces can burn a great deal of gas during the winter, but unlike a furnace, a heat pump uses electricity sparingly in order to warm the home when it’s cold.

Another variety of heat pump is the ductless, mini-split-system heat pump (mini splits). These are often a good fit for homes with “non-ducted” heating systems as well as for room additions when new ductwork is not possible.

Mini splits are small in size and flexible for use with zoned heating and cooling. Each zone has it’s own thermostat, making it easy to condition the area of the home that is occupied at the time. This saves both energy and money. Mini splits also can be easier to install than other types of similar systems. Because they have no ducts, they avoid the associated energy loss of ducts, which can account for more than 30% of energy consumption in some instances.

When considering your next HVAC system, discuss the heat pump and mini split as options with your AirPro NATE technician to see if this solution may be right for your home.
