Why Electrical Repair is a Job for Professionals

Why You Need an Expert for Your Home’s Electrical Repair

Homeownership is a part of the American dream, and it shows: approximately 66% of homes in the U.S. are owned by the occupants. Homeownership also instills an independent streak, resulting in about 98% of homeowners having tried at least one do-it-yourself (DIY) project. However, few homeowners (approximately 33%) are willing to tackle electrical projects themselves. In fact, about 64% of homeowners attempting DIY projects will hire a professional for the electrical portion of the project.

For this reason, Air Pro Houston is willing to handle even the simplest electrical projects, including changing out the contents of switches and outlets. There are several reasons for changing the switch and plug components, so if you face any of these situations, give us a call.

Electrical Repair Upgrade: 5 Signs Your Switches and Outlets Need to Be Replaced

  1. Switches and outlets wear out with use and need to be replaced. When wear creates a loose connection, it can lead to a short circuit that results in the risk of shock or a fire hazard.
  2. Homes built before the 1870s may still have outlets with only two prongs, instead of three prongs. Adaptors are available for devices with three prongs, but the outlets should be changed.
  3. Any switch or outlet within 6 feet of a source of water needs to be a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) device. Adding a new sink or water-using appliance will require the addition of new GFCI switches or outlets. When a ground fault happens, the circuit breaker trips immediately, breaking the circuit. With GFCI switches and outlets, the ground fault is interrupted at the switch or outlet, reducing the risk of shock to anyone coming into contact with the short.
  4. Adding new appliances around the house may require modifications to the existing switches or outlets. That might include a ceiling fan, needing a third switch or a new computer station needing additional outlets. Some appliances require a dimmer switch, another modification that requires a professional electrician. Upgrades to the home that bring Smart technology to multiple devices often require adjustments to the switches and outlets.
  5. Renovations and remodeling projects will usually alter the electrical system, and at this time, all wiring and outlets will need to be brought up to the current building code.

These are common electrical repair modifications that require changing switches and outlets.

Some homeowners prefer that the extent of their electrical DIY projects is to change an occasional light bulb, and that is just fine. Homeownership does not require homeowners to complete DIY electrical repair modifications. Air Pro’s electrical team is trained to handle all these modifications and more.

Don’t Risk It: Why You Should Always Hire an Air Pro Professional for Electrical Repair

DIY home projects can be rewarding, but when it comes to electrical repair, the risks of shock or fire are too great to ignore.
